Go Red For Women
Bethel Health Care joins in celebrating in the American Heart Association’s national campaign, “Go Red for Women,” on Friday, February 3.
Look for the “Go Red For Women” poster in the PLANETREE Corner and in other prominent areas of Bethel Health Care highlighting the importance of the cause and reminding you to be sure to wear red on February 3, to show your support and awareness of this event.
Heart Disease is the Number One killer of women, causing one in three deaths every year. Each year, on the first Friday in February, individuals in thousands of health care facilities, small businesses, multinational corporations, schools and even landmarks “Go Red” to help raise crucial awareness and funds in the fight against heart disease in women. Funds raised on that day are used to support research in order to save more women’s lives.
All $2.00 donations intended for Relay For Life’s “Friday is Jeans Day” fundraising drive will be suspended for the February 3 “Go Red for Women Event.” Instead, all donations made that day will go to the American Heart Association. The first 50 contributors will receive a red ribbon pin to signify their contribution. Contributions can be made to Ann Dugay at the Reception Desk.

Relay For Life
Fund raising activities officially begin now for the American Cancer Society sponsored Relay For Life. Every year the tri-towns of Bethel, Danbury, and Redding champion this event that brings communities together in the fight against cancer. It is a way to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones and fight back against the disease that takes too much from too many.
At Relay For Life, teams of friends, families, schools, sports teams, businesses and organizations join together at the Bethel High School track for one overnight in early June to take turns walking throughout the night. Camaraderie abounds as teams pitch tents filled with sleeping bags and food and entertainment pervade the atmosphere.
Relay For Life, the ACS’s signature activity, has been going strong world-wide since 1985. There are more than five thousand Relays held each year, and Bethel Health Care has participated the past three years contributing over $8,650 in 2011.
Bethel Health Care’s 2012 goal is $10,000. The first committee meeting will be held on February 23, to determine the various fund-raising activities that will be held throughout the Bethel Health Care and Cascades Assisted Living facility.
Ann Dugay has had extensive experience working on Relay For Life committees and is again Bethel Health Care’s Team Captain. Ann is looking for team members to help raise funds for this exceptional cause. If you are an interested individual, passionate about beating this dreaded disease, contact Ann Dugay at 203-830-4180 ext. 3001.
